28 Days Later (2002)

Director: Danny Boyle

Stars:  Cillian MurphyNaomie HarrisChristopher Eccleston

Brilliant animal activists break into a research center and plan on rescuing chimpanzees from the center.  The activist had no idea that the monkeys were carrying a disease that causes intense rage, until the monkeys start attacking them.  The disease works quickly and spreads throughout the UK.

28 days later, Jim wakes up in a hospital alone; he was hit by a car while delivering packages.  The hospital is empty and destroyed.  He is sent wandering the streets looking for other people, but he only finds infected at first.  There are two stories in this movie.  One is about the few survivors and how they handle their new way of living and staying that way.  The other story starts later on in the movie where the military has gated themselves off and have captured a few of the infected to torture.  The two stories come together toward the end.

If something like this did ever happen, I do believe it would happen like this.  The military could not be trusted anymore.  The survivalist mentally would take over, because they have the guns.  People would not be very well prepared for an event like this.  People would break down back to animals in some ways.

The movie captured the loneliness and isolated that one would feel to wake up on there are no people.  The “dead” were the scariest part of the movie, since in past films the undead or living dead were slow and one could just walk right pass them.  In this movie they were fast, very fast.  I would be dead so quick.  I know I would trip over something and that would be the end of me.  I would get tired of running from the dead.

The story tells us to leave the damn monkeys alone, you just never know.
